Sculpture is made with two instruments and some supports and pretty air – Gertrude Stein
The sculptural installation Pretty Air combines the found with the made. The proportional dimension of the larger work obstructs and intersects the space, but remains something to ‘see through’, ‘look at’ as well as move around thus creating an awareness of the exhibition space, its limits, decay, light and texture. Newspaper images are used in direct transfer print processes. The motifs of the prints, as well as their texture co-responds with the wrapped, bandaged boxes through a visually ghostlike membrane of absence, and plays off the rigidity and presence of the sculptural work. The physical works explores mass and volume, and function in the installed context as a component with equal status to primary objects and two-dimensional works, which coexists in generating alternative form and narrative abstraction.
